The foundation stone of the Mythe bridge was laid at Tewkesbury.

A service was held in the Abby, much flag waving at a processional march & a formal dinner held at the Hop Pole Hotel.

The next morning it was discovered that the foundation stone had been dug up & the coins embedded in the mortar had been stolen.

The building of the bridge was believed to bring more trade to the town making it more prosperous, well at least one person became a bit more wealthy!
