After having approx. 4,000 men killed & another 1500 captured at Marston Moor King Charles I fled.
A few days later on the 10th July he hid at the White Hart Inn (now the White Hart Royal Hotel), Moreton in Marsh.
The King choose an attic room, because it had a flag pole in front of the window, which in the event of trouble he could climb & make his escape across the roofs of the High Street.
The King left early the next morning without paying his bill.
Not sure if its still there but years ago the Kings bill was framed on the wall of the hotel.
